New Neighborhood Watch Group / Property Crime / Guns / Law Enforcement Ceremony / CPC Meeting Reminder

Congratulations to the homes on the 14300-block of Marquette Drive NE!  Lieutenant White conducted a Neighborhood Watch Facilitation Meeting at Debra C.’s home and the Foothills Area Command now has another group of citizens trained with basic crime prevention and a Block Captain as point of contact for APD Crime Prevention and the residents of the block.  If you are interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch group on your block or re-starting one that has died out, contact APD’s Senior Crime Prevention Specialist Steve Sink at 244-6644 for a Starter Kit to get the ball rolling.  These groups help the block, the overall community, and your local law enforcement team.

Foothills Community Policing Council Meeting:  Reminder — May’s CPC meeting will be on Monday, May 8th at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Park Community Center at 11710 Comanche Rd NE.  These meetings are for the community and citizen-driven; please attend to learn more about policing and your community.

Law Enforcement Ceremony: The Albuquerque Police Department and Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department will host a memorial service to honor fallen officers and deputies who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.  The service will be held on Tuesday, May 2nd at noon on Harry E. Kinney Plaza, One Civic Plaza (between City Hall and the Convention Center).  The community is invited to attend.

Guns:  My tally of guns reported stolen during burglaries in the Foothills for the month of April is 9.  The majority were guns stolen from parked vehicles (7 of 9), netting the criminal element:  a loaded 9 MM Beretta semi-automatic gun and and extra clip of 28 rounds, 5 handguns (all separate incidents, makes/calibers not specified), an AR-15, a 40 caliber Glock and a Smith & Wesson. Also, 5 various knives were stolen from parked vehicles in April.  Once again, I remind well-meaning citizens exercising their right to bear arms to also exercise prudent judgement in how to properly secure these weapons when left for hours in unattended, parked vehicles or left in homes that are not occupied.
