Day 2: Garage Door Pledge / Candlelight vigil tonight / Property Crimes on Monday

Day 2 of the 30-Day Garage Door Pledge:  I received positive feedback from the community on the Pledge!  Let’s start reaching out to one another about this habit of leaving garage doors open.  I would love to see a reduction in the multiple property crimes that result from leaving garage doors open.

Candlelight Vigil on Civic Plaza tonight (Tuesday, 08/30/16) at 6:30 p.m. for Victoria Martens, young homicide victim: I just got word this morning about this; hope you can attend.

Property Crimes on Monday, 08/29/16 in the Foothills Area Command:

6 Stolen Vehicles:  200-block of Juan Tabo Blvd, 13500-block of Skyline Rd NE, 11200-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 3200-block of Morris St NE, 3300-block of Blume St NE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE.

2 Commercial Burglaries:   11900-block of Menaul Blvd NE, 100-block of Hotel Circle NE.

2 Auto Burglaries:  7100-block of Tramway Blvd NE, 5800-block of Eubank Blvd NE.

Tips and Trends:  I am seeing a little activity again at construction sites, commercial vehicle service centers and access points to our trails and wilderness areas in the Foothills Area Command. It is just too tempting for a criminal to pass up an opportunity to burglarize a vehicle left at these locations with valuables inside.  Auto burglary can happen anytime, anywhere — it is a crime of opportunity.  Remove all items of value (and with personal information), lock up and you will greatly reduce your odds of being a target.

Stay safe,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, NCPS – APD, Foothills Area Command
