Monday Morning Grab Bag / Property Crimes in the Foothills over the Weekend

Monday Morning Grab Bag:  There are several things that are listed below of interest to our community!

International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP):  Thanks to all who attended or otherwise supported the ISCPP’s 3-day training and exam for professional designation as an International Crime Prevention Specialist (ICPS).  We had a full class and twenty newly designated ICPSs are now out and active in the community and other agencies who were represented at the APD-hosted course held at the Foothills Substation.  A special thanks to my colleagues Laura Kuehn (APD CPS at the South West Area Command) and Sharanne Press (APD CPS at the North East Area Command) who helped with the entire project from ‘what if APD hosted an ISCPP course?’ all the way through the final day post-exam.  Huge thanks go out to the APD leadership team who supported this project from APD’s Chief Eden to our APD Area Commanders and Police Service Aides.  This was truly a group effort and a testimony to the meaning of ‘teamwork.’  Our APD ‘local experts’ speakers from COAST and the APD Intelligence-Based Policing expert were excellent and shed light on concepts that can be developed and implemented by the other law enforcement agency representatives who were in attendance.  As of Friday, every one of our six APD Crime Prevention Specialists are now designated as ISCPP International Crime Prevention Specialists.

For those interested in this type of Crime Prevention Specialist training course and professional designation, see the ISCPP’s web site www.iscpp.org for future locations and training opportunities.  There will be another course like the one hosted by APD and more specialized courses in September in Black Hawk, CO at the ISCPP 2016 Symposium.

Safe Exchange Zone:  The Foothills Substation north visitor parking area has two designated spaces reserved for citizens meeting subjects to exchange payment / goods for private transactions (Craig’s List, etc.).  The two parking spaces are outlined in green striping and a sign is posted.  These parking spaces will be under 24/7 camera surveillance as a service to the community.

Cibola Neighborhood Association Meeting:  Councilor Trudy Jones will be hosting a Crime Prevention meeting at the James Dwyer Substation at 12700 Montgomery (on Landau just east of the Tramway/Montgomery intersection) on Thursday, June 30th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Operation Hope:  The Third Annual Operation Hope:  Making A Difference back pack and school supply drive is in full swing.  Donations can be dropped off at the APD Foothills Substation lobby (12800 Lomas Blvd NE) from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.  Donations will be accepted until August 7, 2016.

Donations for the Dog Head Fire Victims:  Thank you to those who donated items and helped with this effort.  The donation drive was a success and once again, Albuquerque citizens showed a lot of heart.  Thank you to those who donated by coming through for those who were dealing with the challenges of being impacted by the fire.

Free Trigger Locks: Free trigger locks are available in the Foothills Substation lobby (12800 Lomas Blvd NE) until we run out — look for the large marked cardboard box.  The lobby will be open Mondays through Fridays between 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. to pick up a lock or two in person.
