Crime Prevention Tips of the Day and Property Crime in the Foothills on Thu. 12/17/15

2 “Warm-Up” Stolen Vehicles: 11400-block of Summer Rd NE and on the 12200-block of Towner NE.  Both vehicles left running and unattended by owners; one vehicle had the house keys inside at the time of theft and the other had a purse/IDs/etc inside vehicle at time of the theft.  Thank goodness neither vehicle had a child or family pet inside when it was stolen.

2 Stolen Vehicles: 12100-block of Menaul Blvd NE and 1000-block of Tramway.

3 Auto Burglaries: 900-block of Pawnee, Embudo Canyon parking at the trail head entry, 3000-block of Juan Tabo.

Yikes!  Another firearm stolen from a parked vehicle.  Please practice responsible gun ownership and property secure your firearms.  A property crime offender who had no hesitation to break into a vehicle is now armed with a weapon, which could turn that thief into a violent crimes offender.

Quick stops and leaving purses in cars:  Do not leave a purse in the car at any time, no matter how fast you think your errand will take.  We had a purse stolen out of a vehicle in the Foothills at a day care center parking lot.  These tend to happen at schools, day care, convenience stores and at the gas pumps.  This is a crime of opportunity and a great loss to the victim replacing credit cards, IDs, and all the other goodies we tend to carry in our purses.

Warm-Up Auto Thefts:  We have to work hard to spread the word about these 100% preventable crimes.  The time delays I am seeing on Foothills cases for this type of auto theft are between 2-5 minutes from when victims walked away and then realized the vehicle was stolen.

Have a safe weekend —
