Crime Prevention Tip of the Day:  Loading groceries and purchases into your vehicle — word of warning:  I have had 3 recent cases in the Foothills Area Command where purses were stolen off front seats and from inside vehicles while female victims were loading purchases into their vehicles.  This has happened at big box retail ‘club’ store, a major super store and at a residence in recent weeks in the Foothills Area Command.  Be alert – scan your surroundings – don’t carry a purse (keep your ID, bank card, cash, etc. in a pocket or a wristlet or a fanny pack) – if you see loitering in a parking lot report it to management – ask for an escort to your vehicle.  I hate to see women targeted for this brazen type of crime.  The most recent case (yesterday’s) involved a female who stole the purse from inside the vehicle and a male circling the lot waiting for her; both fled.  If you are a victim, please call 911 from a safe place and provide the best description and direction of travel you can to the dispatcher.  I do not recommend following or chasing offenders — this is dangerous and an unpredictable situation for a victim.  I will be watching for more on this type of crime and hope it is not becoming a trend.  I will keep you posted.  Stay safe out there — your police department cares about you and your families.
