4 Residential Burglaries:  1500-block of Catron Avenue SE, 13300-block of Mountain Road NE, 13100-block of Velma Place NE, 13100-block of Tamarac NE.

Crime Prevention Tips:  Over the last 24 hours, we had a vehicle stolen using the key.  A wallet and vehicle key were lost prior to the auto theft.  Please keep track of your personal belongings to prevent being a victim of crime.  Our residential burglaries were due to garages left open (1) and the rest (3) were forced entries.

Neighbors!  We need your extra eyes and ears on the block by:  reporting strangers attempting to get to the back yard of a home, appearing to look into windows or ringing doorbells with silly excuses for being on your porch, etc.  Report these incidents to 242-COPS (2677) from a safe place and then to your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain.  You can help your block and police by notifying a neighbor if they have left their garage door open.  Remember — the garage door is the biggest door to your home.  Our auto burglary was in the same block as one of our residential burglaries:  Attention 1500-block of Catron Avenue SE:  get a Neighborhood Watch formed!  I’d love to train you at a Neighborhood Watch facilitation meeting.  These groups are effective and easy to form – call Steve Sink at 244-6644 to get a starter kit.  If you had one that fizzled out, get it re-started and start learning about how you can reduce your odds of being a victim of crime.

I hope I’ve given you helpful information and the nudge to work with APD through the Crime Prevention programs that are in place to help you help yourselves and your neighborhood.
