0 Robberies, Commercial Burglaries

3 Stolen Vehicles: 10600-block of Central NE, 14300-block of Copper NE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE.

2 Residential Burglaries: 10200-block of Jiles Dr NE, 11300-block of Malaguena Lane NE.

1 Auto Burglary: 700-block of Shirley St NE.

Crime Prevention based on these cases:  One vehicle stolen while owner asleep inside unlocked home; wallet and keys to vehicle stolen from pants that were inside the unsecured home.  Please make it a habit to lock up your homes.  This vehicle theft could have been prevented and the owner was in a very dangerous and unpredictable situation with an offender in the home while the owner was asleep.

One vehicle stolen at trail head parking area while owner was out for a run.  This doesn’t happen very much in our Area Command; however, I do see auto burglaries occur at trail head parking lots during warm weather months.  Take extra precautions to secure your property.  There are many types of anti-theft devices on the market to prevent auto theft – perhaps one will be right for you.

One of two residential burglaries yesterday had an entry made via a garage door left open.  Please remember:  a garage door is the biggest door to your home!  Usually there is a door from the garage into the home — deadbolt that door.  Close garages.  Your safety and your property is compromised when you leave a garage door open.

A simple change of habit (locking your door, using anti-theft devices for vehicles, keeping garage doors closed, etc.) can make a big change in your life when it reduces your odds of being a victim of crime.  Pick up some new habits and secure your personal property.
