Crime Prevention Tips: Our residential burglary entry points yesterday were to the back of each home.  If you see anyone attempting to climb or get through a side gate or fence to access the back of a neighbor’s home, call 242-COPS (2677) from a place where you are safe to report this incident.  Get to know your neighbors and have a way to reach them if you see something suspicious at their home.  One neighbor witnessed the offender at a burglarized home, but assumed the person had permission to be there.  Perhaps this crime could have been prevented by knowing the neighbor, knowing how to safely report it and having a way to contact the neighbor.  Forming Neighborhood Watch groups helps you become connected with your neighbors.  APD Crime Prevention trains you on what to watch out for and how to safely report it at the facilitation meeting.  Neighborhood Watches help you focus on how to control your environment and how each one of us can reduce the odds of being a victim of a criminal.  It’s one block at a time.  Call Steve Sink at 244-6644 to ask for a Neighborhood Watch Starter Kit to jump start a fizzled group or to start a group on your block.
