Crime prevention based on Wednesday’s cases:

First of all, thank you to the alert citizen doing yard work who called APD to report a male/female suspicious pair at a neighbor’s home — your description and information was excellent and a great help to our officers and your neighbor.  Neighbors looking out for one another, calling 242-COPS or 911 from a safe place with good descriptions of suspicious persons or vehicles help APD to help you.  This is what Neighborhood Watch groups are trained to do — call 244-6644 to get a Neighborhood Watch Starter Kit to help yourself, your block and your police department.

One of our 3 residential burglaries involved entering the home via an unlocked windowRemember to lock up.  This will be very important with warmer weather coming when we tend to leave windows open and may forget to close and lock them.

Our auto burglaries yesterday targeted a work computer, a wallet, IDs, vehicle registration (used to commit additional crimes like fraud/forgery/ID theft), and a tool box that were left in unattended vehicles.  Please remove all items of value, including personal information and garage door openers, when walking away from your vehicle.
