Crime Prevention Notes:  Maybe the word is getting out about the ‘warm-up’ stolen vehicle problem city-wide; the Foothills didn’t have a single one in the last 24 hours.

The residential burglaries yesterday were made by offenders gaining entry via bedroom window (pried it open), entering through a door at the back of a home and kicking in a front door.

I am doing a series of crime prevention tips for your homes all month on this web site and on nextdoor.com.  I started with exterior lighting in January and am moving on this month through fences, then garage doors, then front doors, and wrapping up with windows/doggie doors.  I will also have one-page fliers each week for the public in the Foothills Substation lobby.  If you would like a crime prevention home assessment call me for an appointment at 323-4644.

Yesterday’s auto burglaries occurred at target-rich environments — an apartment complex parking lot, a grocery store parking lot and a gym parking lot.  That means lots of ‘targets’ (vehicles) in one spot.  The credit cards stolen from one vehicle were being used in the vicinity shortly after the burglary at gas staions, fast food and retail spots.  Please take the extra care to remove all items of value from unattended vehicles when you park!  This includes papers with your personal information, garage door openers, keys, wallets, purses, cell phones, GPS systems, etc.
