Albuquerque Block Captain Association’s Fall Conference: Recap

Thanks to ABCA for hosting another great conference.  The material was timely, speakers were  informative and the room was packed!  Here are some notes for those who could not attend:

Holiday Safety and Crime Prevention:  The APD will be implementing Holiday Tactical Plans from “Black Friday” November 28 through December 28 in major shopping areas throughout town.  Bait vehicles and bait items will be deployed and there will be undercover officers in these areas watching out for citizens and watching for criminals.

APD Recruiting and Man Power:  We have 2 academy classes and are aggressively pushing for more recruits throughout the region.  We have implemented a mentorship program for experienced officers to guide and work with newer officers to help them with the rigors and responsibilities of what it means to be an effective police officer.  A retention incentive is being considered to hold on to our highly trained and experienced officers who are approaching retirement to keep them with the department a little longer.

Citizens Police Academy:  Highly recommended program for citizens interested in how our police department functions and on-site, in-depth opportunties to learn about every facet of APD.  See www.cabq.gov/police page and look for the Citizens Police Academy information to sign up.

APD Foothills Web Site:  Please subscribe!  The other Area Command web sites will be rolled out in the near future.  This is how we will communicate with the community and where the community will find Area Command information.

Thanks again for a great conference and the opportunity to connect in person last Saturday — it was fun.
