Public Safety & Consumer Protection Fair Tomorrow! / Monthly Snapshot / April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Child Abuse Prevention Month

Public Safety and Consumer Protection Fair in the Foothills Area Command tomorrow, Tuesday, April 3rd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Manzano Mesa Multi-Generational Center at 501 Elizabeth St SE.  There will be several agencies and assistance organizations at the fair to provide information on public safety and consumer protection at the fair and speakers at 5:30 p.m. (IRS Special Agent Nevarez, Jr. on “Tax Fraud and ID Theft”) and 6:00 p.m. (APD Foothills Crime Prevention Specialist on “Protecting Your Personal Information”).  The fair is free and open to all – come by to pick up information, meet others in our community and learn something new!


April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and National Child Abuse Prevention:  The Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center is a safe, secure and caring environment that focuses on the needs of victims of interpersonal crime.  The center is committed to providing victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and their families with a safe setting to assist in addressing and overcoming the trauma of their experience and break the cycle of violence that destroys families.  The Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center has trained staff and volunteers to provide personal assistance to victims and families on Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (no appointment necessary) at 625 Silver SW, Suite 200.  The phone number is (505) 243-2333.

New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department:  Provides child abuse prevention, intervention, rehabilitative and after-care services to New Mexico’s children and their families.  To report child abuse or neglect to the New Mexico CYFD call 1-855-333-SAFE or from a cell phone #SAFE (7233).

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center can be reached at 877-739-3895.  The NSVRC is there to help lead with prevention and response and collaborate with others on sharing and creating resources and promoting research on sexual violence.

Foothills Area Command’s March Property Crime “Snapshot” – a tally of property crimes reported in the Foothills for the month of March:

3 Robberies to an Individuals

49 Stolen Vehicles:  The Foothills Area Command continued to have ‘warm up’ auto thefts through March 21st (a preventable crime).

14 Commercial Burglaries

51 Residential Burglaries

105 Auto Burglaries.  Items left in vehicles in March that were stolen:

  • Tazer (stun gun), 4 firearms, a hunting knife, axe, a knife, a razor
  • A license plate, keys, head rest monitors and a vehicle window
  • CA Corrections officer’s badge, keys to a financial institution, plumber’s license
  • Cases of beer
  • Briefcase, purses, wallets, back packs, baby stroller, hockey gear and equipment, make up, shoes, prescription eye wear, clothing
  • Multiple set of vehicle insurance and registration information; vehicle title, IDs, credit/debit cards, a total of $5,726 in cash in varying amounts from multiple vehicles,  multiple sets of checks and checkbooks, multiple gift cards
  • Jewelry, designer watch, oxygen reader, laptops, iPhones, iPads, phone chargers, a clipboard, reflective vest, work jacket, dental supplies, hobby foam
  • Tools, toolboxes, 2 large rolling tool boxes, a total of $6,300 in various tools from several vehicles
  • Groceries, candy, a lunch bag and grocery carrying tote bags


Property Crimes Reported in the Foothills on Friday, March 30th – Saturday, March 31st – Sunday, April 1st:

3 Stolen Vehicles:  Friday at 1000-block of Chelwood Park Blvd NE, Saturday at 10100-block of Comanche Rd NE and Sunday on 10000-block of Candelaria Rd NE.

1 Commercial Burglary:  Friday:  1700-block of Eubank Blvd NE.

6 Residential Burglaries:  Friday:  11100-block of Gibson Ave SE, 2100-block of Brentwood Park Dr NE, 14200-block of Mocho Ave NE.  Saturday:  14200-block of Sedrev Rd NE, 200-block of Hanosh Court SE, 11400-block of Baldwin Ave NE


10 Auto Burglaries:  Friday:  2800-block of Muriel St NE,  1300-block of Jewett Dr NE.  Saturday:  2 vehicles at the same address on the 10600-block of Irene Ave NE,12600-block of Singing Arrow, 13100-block of Chico Rd SE, 9800-block of Menaul blvd NE.  Sunday:  3800-Inca St NE, 12600-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 13100-block of Fruit Ave NE. Entries: Damaged door locks, one broken window.  Items Stolen:  TV stolen from truck bed, multiple IDs stolen.  Several vehicles had extensive damage due to failed attempts to steal the vehicles (ignition and steering column damages).
