Alert Neighbors: When To Call Police / Property Crimes Reported in the Foothills on Wednesday, March 28th

Neighbors:  Your calls about suspicious activity on the block are helping your community.  Here are a few examples of suspicious behavior that you should call 242-COPS (2677) or 911 if you see occurring in your neighborhood (call from a place where you are safe):  two strangers leaving the neighbor’s house with a pillow case stuffed with items; four strangers pounding on windows and doors at a neighbor’s house; subjects in a neighbor’s back yard.  These examples of odd behavior on the block are all legitimate reasons to call police!  These examples are also from actual incidents that Foothills officers have responded to recently.

Those who live on the block see a lot – and know what is normal behavior for their neighborhood.  Safely calling in suspicious incidents to police and then reporting to the Neighborhood Watch Block Captain to communicate to the rest of the block is what keeps neighborhoods safer and pushes the criminal element off your block.  We do not want anyone to place themselves in harm’s way, but to call from a safe location, tell the operator what is occurring and give the best description you can so an officer can be dispatched to the location.  When calling 242-COPS (2677) you can be anonymous or you can choose to leave your name and phone number for the operator or to request contact from the responding officer.  With the APD Mobile App (ABQPolice) you can also contact 911 in an emergency.

Neighbors who look out for one another, communicate regularly and have current contact lists for each other are way ahead in practicing crime prevention methods.  If you would like to form a Neighborhood Watch group, contact Laura Kuehn at 256-2050 to get a Starter Kit and find out more about the Neighborhood Watch programs and the Crime Prevention Unit.
