Warm Up Auto Thefts / Property Crimes reported in the Foothills Area Command on Wednesday, December 6th

Warm Up Auto Thefts:  These are auto thefts when the victim has left the vehicle running and unattended, usually with the keys inside the vehicle.  These can happen anytime, anywhere!  The APD Crime Analysis Unit reports that city-wide there were 22 ‘warm up’ auto thefts in November and 4 in December as of December 3rd.  The Foothills Area Command had 1 warm-up auto theft reported yesterday.  These crimes take literally seconds to commit and the plumes of exhaust in the pre-dawn hours while cars are idling are like a neon sign to criminals looking for easy targets.  Remember, this is a 100% preventable crime – do not assume it won’t happen to you, it won’t happen in your neighborhood or you will only be a minute dashing inside and it won’t happen to you.  Practice your crime prevention skills and never leave a vehicle running and unattended.
