Foothills Substation still closed…/ Another Snowball / Guns in Vehicles / Property crimes reported over the weekend in the Foothills

The APD Foothills Substation at 12800 Lomas Blvd NE is still closed to the community during construction.  We expect to re-open to the community on Wednesday, October 18th.  In the meantime, please go to the Jame Dwyer Substation at 12700 Montgomery (at Landau, just east of Tramway) for assistance.  The phone number remains the same to reach our front office staff:  (505) 332-5240.  You may also go to any other APD Substation should you need assistance; locations are on the City of Albuquerque web site at, available on the APD app at ABQPolice, and also through the Citizens Contact Center (dial 311).  Thank you for your patience during this time.

Property crimes reported in the Foothills Area Command over the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday October 13-14-15):

5 Armed Robberies/Commercial:  Friday — 2800-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 1500-block of Eubank Blvd NE.  Saturday:  3600-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 11100-block of Menaul Blvd NE.  Sunday:  12500-block of Menaul Blvd NE.

1 Robbery/Residential:  Saturday:  9900-block of Menaul Blvd NE.

9 Stolen Vehicles:  Friday:  10600-block of Prospect Ave NE,11900-block of Lombard Lane NE, 1800-block of Father Sky St NE, 11000-block of Central SE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE.   Saturday:  11800-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 800-block of Toro St SE.  Sunday:  1100-block of Narcisco St NE, 3300-block of Mountainside Prkwy NE.

Prevention Tips:  Two of nine stolen vehicles were stolen using the vehicle keys taken in other burglaries. Safeguard those car keys!

Another snowball:  One case involved stealing the garage door remote and registration to get a way into the home and the home address, then committing residential burglary and auto theft after committing the auto burglary — three serious crimes stemming from one.  I call this ‘snowball’ crime — one thing ‘snowballs’ into more crimes.  We have to be more careful with our vehicle keys and safeguard them.  We have to remove ALL items of value from our vehicles when we park and that includes the garage door opener and the registration and insurance documents.  Carry those with you.  You need to have the registration in the vehicle when you are driving, but it doesn’t have to be in the vehicle when it’s parked.

About leaving weapons in parked vehicles:  A pistol was in a parked vehicle that was stolen over the weekend, inadvertently arming a criminal with a gun.

3 Commercial Burglaries:  Friday:  800-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE.  Saturday:  1700-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE.  11800-block of Lomas Blvd NE.

11 Residential Burglaries:  Friday:  4600-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 1100-block of Salinas St SE, 12000-block of Menaul Blvd NE, 1100-block of Titleist Dr NE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE. Saturday:  10000-block of Menaul Blvd NE, 700-block of Ocala St SE, 800-block of Trading Post Trail SE.  Sunday:  9800-block of Pitt Pl NE, 5300-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 3300-block of Mountainside Parkway NE.

Garage doors:  Three of eleven residential burglaries were involving entries through the open garaged door.  Please keep the garage closed — start thinking of the garage door as the biggest door to your home (because it is!).  If you see a neighbor’s garage door open, kindly remind them — they may have forgotten to close it.  These residential burglaries may have been prevented by just closing the garage door.

About leaving unsecured weapons in homes:  Firearms not secured in a safe are subject to being stolen.  If you secure your firearms, you may be preventing arming a criminal who is inside your home and also preventing an accidental shooting.  We had a gun and a dozen swords stolen in residential burglaries this weekend and another gun in a vehicle that stolen this weekend.  We are arming the criminal population by not securing our weapons.  If you own a weapon, along with that right comes a responsibility.  Please look into ways to secure your firearms and other dangerous weapons that could be used against you or your family or law enforcement.  There are many local and national resources to learn more on how to properly secure firearms.

18 Auto Burglaries:  Friday:  4600-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 4800-block of Manitoba Ct NE, 10800-block of Habanero Way SE,  500-block of Elizabeth SE, 10800-block of Montgomery Blvd NE.  Saturday:  5000-block of Miguel Ct NE, 3300-block of Morris NE, 13100-block of Wenonah Ave SE, 6000-block of Cortaderia St NE, 300-block of Dorado SE, 3300-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 1000-block of Hope Place NE, 10600-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 1000-block of Betts St NE.  Sunday:  700-block of Stephen Moody St SE, 4700-block of Westridge Place NE, 3000-block of Jane Place NE, 13300-block of Fruit Ave NE.

Entries: Unlocked vehicles.  Smash & Grabs (breaking a window to steal items from the vehicle).  Damaged door locks to get inside the vehicle.

Items stolen from vehicles in one weekend:  Three failed attempts to steal the vehicles, leaving behind extensive damages.  CD case and collection.  Wallet, Bluetooth headphones, driver’s license, multiple credit cards, a government-issued credit card.  Purse, cash and a bag of dance equipment.  Folder with birth certificates and Social Security cards.  Keys to the post office box belonging to victim.  Computer and a back pack.  Debit card.  Purse, IDs, credit cards, debit cards, driver’s license, cash insurance card, diaper bag and baby items.  Stereo system.
