New Foothills Neighborhood Watch Group / Phone Scam / Community Reminders: Upcoming events / Property Crime on Thu. 9/7/17.

New Foothills Area Command Neighborhood Watch Group Formed:  Thank you to the residents on Cenaroca Court NE in the Supper Rock neighborhood for forming a Neighborhood Watch group.   Actually, this block once had a Neighborhood Watch many, many years ago and organizer Denise was able to re-vitalize the group.  If you would like to form a new Neighborhood Watch group or re-start one that fizzled out over time, contact the APD Senior Crime Prevention Specialist Steve Sink at 244-6644 to get a Starter Kit.

These groups serve as extra eyes and ears on the block, learn how to be more observant and to safely report suspicious or criminal incidents to police.  They benefit the block, overall community and the police department with neighbors receiving basic crime prevention information and resources for community engagement and partnerships with the Albuquerque Police Department.

Phone Scam:  I got word from our APD Foothills Substation team at the front desk that they are being informed by the public about a telephone scam that seems to be circulating in the Foothills Area Command.  Citizens are reporting that they are receiving calls telling them they never showed up for jury duty and there is a warrant out for the citizen’s arrest unless they pay a fee or go to 400  Roma NW to meet the caller and pay the caller the fine to avoid jail time.  Please let me assure you that these are scams designed to strike fear in a citizen and trick citizens into giving the call cash.  I recommend screening your calls — let your calls go to voicemail and then determine if it’s a legitimate caller.  This is a completely bogus scam attempt and if you get a call threatening you with jail for missing jury duty, hang up.

Community Reminders:

We have the Foothills Community Policing Council (CPC) meeting coming up on Monday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Park Community Center at 11710 Comanche Rd NE.  The community is encouraged to attend and participate.  Questions about the CPCs in Albuquerque?  Contact APD Community Outreach’s Nicole Chavez-Lucero at 768-2420 or at nchavez-lucero@cabq.gov.
