Foothills CPC Meeting Reminder / Trending Tuesday / Weekend and Monday Property Crimes reported in the Foothills

Trending Tuesday:  As we begin September, the trend over the weekend (I count Friday/Saturday/Sunday property crime activity for weekends) in property crime in the Foothills seemed to be focused on targeted vacant homes for burglaries.  Luckily, we had some alert neighbors calling the APD’s 911 or 242-COPS (2677) when things didn’t seem right across the street or next door.  We also had some alert and pro-active neighbors who called APD when they were awakened by car alarms in the wee hours, saw car doors left open and windows smashed, etc.  Thanks to those alert neighbors for picking up the phone to call 911 or 242-COPS (2677) when things just didn’t seem right.

Great neighbors build trusted relationships with each other and share emergency contact phone numbers and let each other know if they are going of out town.  These neighbors are our “extra eyes and ears on the block” and observe a lot of activity!  These types of great neighbors are willing to call and report from a safe place and loop in that neighbor who they know is on vacation that something didn’t seem right and they have contacted police.

Although we already had our residential burglary victims who were out of town on this holiday weekend targeted, remember:  Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving and the holiday season will be in full swing before you know it — if you reach out now to neighbors, you may be laying the groundwork for good, trusted relationships by holiday season when we need those extra eyes and ears on the block.  A good and trusted neighbor is worth their weight in gold!

Foothills Community Policing Council Meeting:  September’s meeting will be on Monday, September 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Park Community Center, 11710 Comanche Road NE.

Have a great week, thanks for the support to the Crime Prevention programs like Neighborhood Watch and the Crime Free Multi-Housing program for rentals, booking security assessments and getting involved with your local business neighbors, single-family residential block neighbors, apartment community neighbors and management teams and courtesy patrols.  It really counts when the community works together to engage, safely report incidents and take crime prevention ‘layering of targets’ measures.  Stay safe!
