Hot Wheels list for Auto Thefts / Labor Day Coming Up / Property Crimes reported on Wed. 8/30/17

Hot Wheels List:  Crime Analysis came out with the auto theft data for the city — here’s what they show:

  • 8/21 – 8/27 shows 118 vehicles stolen city-wide (8/14-8/20 shows 164 stolen, 8/7-8/13 shows 171 stolen), so down a little bit.
  • Where are these vehicles being stolen?  29 from apartments, 21 from residences and then we have a big drop in the numbers as they spread out among businesses, hotels, restaurants, car dealership/mechanic locations, retail locations, schools, fitness centers, gas/convenience stores, medical providers and by the roadside from 8/21 – 8/27 city-wide.
  • Most popular vehicles to steal?  Of the 118 vehicles reported stolen city-wide from 8/21 – 8/27, 32 were Chevrolet (24 pick ups), 17 Ford (13 pick ups), and 8 Subaru and the rest were varied.
  • The Foothills Area Command shows there were 16 vehicles reported stolen during that time frame. Again, the Foothills Area Command falls right in the middle of the six APD Area Commands for auto theft activity.  City-wide Crime Analysis showed a high of 33 vehicles reported stolen to a low of 9 vehicles stolen at other Area Commands for that time frame.  Of course, there are many different causes and conditions for auto theft rates that vary between Area Commands such as access points, types of activities in areas, population, geographical considerations, etc.

Labor Day is coming up:  The Foothills Substation will be closed on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day.  There will not be a crime prevention post that day.
