Walking the Block / Thank you east end of Piru SE / Property Crime reported Tuesday, August 22nd / Unlocked Vehicles and Guns (again…)

Walking the Block:  Thanks to Wanda U., pro-active Singing Arrow neighborhood resident who organized the “Walk the Block with Jill” crime prevention lesson last night.  Sergeant Larry Middleton and I really enjoyed meeting those who attended and teaching some crime prevention tips based on the homes on the west end of Piru SE.

“Walk the Block with Jill” is a group crime prevention lesson using your own block and features of the homes on the block as illustrations of crime prevention principles.  If you would like to book a Walk the Block with me, call the Foothills Area Command substation at 332-5240 and ask for Jill Garcia.  My calendar is filling up fast and the Walk the Blocks conclude when the days get shorter for safety and practical reasons.  If you are interested in an early evening booking for your block I have a few Tuesday evenings left for October.  If you can’t book one with me, these types of lessons will be available next year when the weather is mild and we have longer daylight hours to attract more participation from neighbors.

Unlocked vehicles and guns:  We had an auto burglary reported yesterday in the Foothills Area Command where a back pack was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in a two-minute time frame.  The back pack had two guns inside.  I need your help to spread the word that we cannot afford to leave guns, items of value or importance inside an unattended vehicle.  Especially an unlocked vehicle.  Don’t risk being a victim with the notion that you can’t be an auto burglary victim if you are just dropping by somewhere for a quick errand, walking to check your mail box at the apartment community, dashing inside the convenience store, dropping off or picking up children at the day care or school, etc.  You greatly reduce your odds of being a victim by removing anything visible, carrying fewer items and keeping them with you and locking up and rolling up vehicle windows.
