Down to the wire to register your National Night Out event! / Operation Hope Back to School Donation deadline coming up / Property Crimes

Tonight at close of business (5:00 p.m.) is the deadline to register your neighborhood/apartment community or house of worship gathering to celebrate National Night Out, our annual night to gather as communities for a social visit to renew old ties and build new friendships via unified neighborhoods and community groups.  Call the Citizens’ Contact Center at 311 to register your event before the deadline.  National Night Out is Tuesday, August 1st.

Operation Hope’s donation drive for back to school back packs and school supplies will be ending on August 1st.  You can drop off donations of back packs, lunch bags, wipes, tissues, paper towels and various school supplies at the APD Foothills Substation at 12800 Lomas Blvd NE on Friday, Monday or Tuesday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  The school supplies will help our community’s children start a new school term with the items they need.

Property Crimes reported in the Foothills Area Command on Wednesday, July 26th

1 Commercial Burglary:  1500-block of Eubank Blvd NE (CPM Inc).

1 Residential Burglary:  500-block of Chelwood Park Blvd NE.  Entry:  Kicked in door.  Items stolen:  PlayStation and bank cards.

7 Auto Burglaries:  2900-block of Dorothy St NE,11200-block of Brentwood Hills Blvd NE, 11100-block of Arvada Ave NE, two vehicles on the 2800-block of Palo Verde Dr NE, 4200-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 5500-block of Eubank Blvd NE.  Entries:  Breaking windows, prying open doors/damaging locks.  Items stolen: Tools tools and more tools!  These are ‘hot-ticket’ items for burglars — remove all items of value from your vehicle when you park.  Also a purse, IDs, credit union card, iPhone, cash.  The purse was left on the vehicle floorboard, but we cannot afford to ‘hide’ purses in vehicles parked at work all day. The burglars know the hiding spots.  It’s better to try not to carry a purse, only carry the essentials you need and bring those items inside and stow them in a locked cabinet, locker or desk drawer.

Today is National Chili Dog Day and National Creme Brulee Day — I know right now which one of those I’d chose, and I’d definitely not have both at the same meal!  Have a great day and I hope you’ll be participating on National Night Out and Operation Hope’s back to school donation drive.  Be safe,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, NCPS – APD, Foothills Area Command
