Property Crime over the Weekend / 2 More Guns Stolen from Cars / Ways to be Safer

Ways to be Safer:  Thank you to Channel 4 (KOB TV) for the nice piece they featured last week about the Internet Exchange Zones at the substations.  If you caught Colton Shone’s piece they filmed at the Foothills Substation.  These Internet Exchange Zones are for internet purchases/exchanges so the community can meet the buyer/seller at the police substation parking lot with camera surveillance for a little added security for those types of transactions.  I recommend completing these types of transactions in a safe, public place and not at your home!

Two more guns stolen:  Over the weekend we had two separate incidents reported of guns stolen from parked vehicles.  Both vehicles were parked at pretty busy locations – – one at a popular restaurant and one at a big-box hardware type of retail location.  We are making it way too easy for criminals to arm themselves with well-meaning citizens’ firearms.  My tally for the month of July so far (just in the Foothills Area Command — basically everything in city limits east of Eubank) is 11 guns stolen during auto or residential burglaries.  Of the 11, 9 were stolen from parked vehicles.  This is an easy fix — there are gun safes for vehicles or holster the gun or reconsider if the gun is doing anyone any good left in a parked vehicle overnight and not accessible to you.
