Congratulations to our newest Neighborhood Watch group! / Property Crime on Thursday

Congratulations to the Foothills Area Command’s newest Neighborhood Watch group, Calle De Tierra NE in the Glenwood Hills neighborhood.  Special thanks go out to Melissa S. for stepping forward to serve as Block Captain and for getting such a great turnout last night. This particular block watch group originally formed in 1994 and wanted to get a watch group organized again, and it was terrific to have the original Block Captains in attendance last night.  Thanks to everyone who participated and also to Officer Harry Gunderson who was able to attend.

Neighborhood Watch groups serve as extra eyes on the block for our police officers and neighbors are asked to call 242-COPS (2677) or 911 from a safe place, to connect with each other face to face a few times a year and receive basic crime prevention tips and resources at the facilitation meeting.  If you would like to start a Neighborhood Watch on your block or re-start one that has fizzled out, contact APD Senior Crime Prevention Manager Steve Sink at 244-6644 to get your starter kit.

Neighborhood Watch is not about forming patrols, following or chasing or confronting — just good old fashioned neighborliness and communication flow between APD and the Block Captain.  APD and the neighborhoods benefit from engaged, united neighbors willing to report crime or suspicious activity safely.
