Trending Tuesday / Property Crime on Monday the 17th / Another gun stolen from a parked car

Trending Tuesday:  It’s good to be back in the office and back in the groove so to speak.  While checking up on the property crimes that occurred while I was away, I found an interesting trend:  sheds are being broken into at single family residences. I go over this with home owners when I’m out doing home security assessments and a common reply is, “who wants my hedge clippers/garden tools?  They can have ’em!”  Many community members feel shed burglaries are extremely low level crimes.  Maybe so, but there is more to this than the lawn mower being ripped off. The shed is a hiding place.  If officers are in a pursuit with an offender, as the offender is running down your block, your unlocked shed is a great spot to try to hide until the police are out of the area.  Lock up the shed, and if possible, limit or cut off access to the shed by installing a gate or fence.  By deterring, delaying or denying access, you’ll be practicing sound crime prevention principles and you could be helping local law enforcement too.

Guns being stolen from parked cars:  Unfortunately, this trend continues.  Criminals have been armed by well-meaning citizens to the tune of 3 guns stolen from parked vehicles so far this month in the Foothills Area Command.
