Crime Prevention talk at the CPC tonight / Trending Tuesday Tomorrow / Weekend Property Crimes

Foothills Community Policing Council Meeting:  I’ll be at the Foothills Community Policing Council (CPC) meeting tonight to talk about what a Crime Prevention Specialist’s role in the community involves and how the APD Crime Prevention Specialist team can help citizens (each APD Area Command has a Crime Prevention Specialist).  The meeting is at 6:00 – 7:50 p.m. at the Holiday Park Community Center at 11710 Comanche Rd NE.  The CPC also invited a very special guest, APD’s Officer Mick Rael, who is one of our Foothills Area Command’s School Resource Officers.  Officer Rael will be talking about crime and prevention in the schools and how an SRO assists and reaches out to connect with our youth.  Foothills CPCs are held monthly on the second Monday of each month at the same time and location unless otherwise noted.

If you can’t attend the meeting, the minutes from past meetings and agendas for the upcoming meeting are posted on the City of Albuquerque web site at:  https://www.cabq.gov/police/community-policing-council and questions about the CPCs throughout the city can be directed to: Nicole Chavez-Lucero,Community Outreach,Police (505) 382-7621 or nchavez-lucero@cabq.gov

Trending Tuesday is coming up tomorrow — I’ll post about what I see as trends regarding property crimes in the Foothills Area Command.  Use this information to try to ‘harden your targets’ and be up on what’s happening around us in the Foothills regarding burglaries and other property crimes.
Property crime reported in the Foothills Area Command over the weekend (Friday 3/10 through Sunday 3/12)
1 Armed Robbery/Commercial:  12900-block of Central NE.

1 Robbery/Residential (Home Invasion): 11200-block of Country Club Drive NE.

4 Stolen Vehicles (and 2 attempts that were not successful): 10600-block of Central NE, 200-block of Figueroa, 13100-block of Wenonah SE, 3500-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE.

3 Commercial Burglaries:  12900-block of Central NE, 800-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 10600-block of Lomas Blvd NE.

2 Residential Burglaries:  12800-block of Deer Dancer Trl NE, 11700-block of Woodmar Ln NE.  Entries:  garages.  Items stolen:  tools, food from a freezer, two sets of golf clubs.

14 Auto Burglaries:   300-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 500-block of Eubank Blvd SE, 700-block of Eubank Blvd SE, 700-block of Stephen Moody SE, 11000-block of Skyline Rd, 9800-block of Candelaria Rd NE, 11500-block of Golden Gate NE, 11400-block of Kielich Ave NE, 6600-block of Tennyson NE, 12200-block of Academy Rd NE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE, 5700-block of Nugget NE, 10100-block of Montgomery Blvd NE, 4900-block of Tramway Ridge NE.

Entries:  unlocked vehicles, popped a door lock, smash & grabs (breaking a window to get to item left inside the vehicle).  Items stolen:  attempts to steal 2 vehicles noted (damage to ignitions), 2 purses and the contents including IDs/credit cards, military ID and various documents from door side panel and glove box, box left inside vehicle with birth certificate-personal data – Social Security card, $3,000 in cash and a laptop, remote control access to gated community’s gates and vehicle registration, laptop bag, swim bag, wallet.

As you can see from the entries and items stolen, just securing your property and removing items left behind in vehicles when parking will greatly reduce the numbers of auto burglaries and residential burglaries.  Just a few seconds invested can prevent hours of aggravation, repair or replacement costs, filing insurance claims, the likelihood of more crimes being committed using what was stolen, and the incalculable loss of peace of mind that goes along with being a burglary victim.

Have a great week and be safe,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, NCPS – APD, Foothills Area Command
