“The time is always right to do what is right.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day the Foothills Substation will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2017. We will be open again at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday the 17th.
Guns: I have a tally of 3 guns stolen during the commission of 2 property crimes reported in the Foothills Area Command yesterday. Please properly secure your guns — there are many options available for weapons storage for both vehicles and homes. Year-to-date, I have a tally of 6 guns, ammo, various sizes of knives and an axe reported stolen during residential and auto burglaries or left inside vehicles at the time of vehicle theft.
Please keep a property inventory of guns — make, model, caliber, serial number, and any distinguishing features. All too often, gun owners have no identifying information for their guns. Our officers cannot get stolen guns entered into the NCIC system without this information and if the gun is recovered identifying information can aid in getting your weapon back.
Property Crimes in the Foothills on Thursday, January 12, 2017
1 Armed Robbery/Commercial: 5800-block of Eubank Blvd NE.
10 Stolen Vehicles: 500-block Morris NE, 2 vehicles at the same address on the 800-block of Sagebrush SE, 600-block of Nathan SE, 13500-block of Skyline Rd, 600-block of Paisano Rd, 13200-block of Mountain Rd NE, 1200-block of Nakomis NE, 2500-block of Chelwood Park Blvd NE, 11300-block of Baja Dr NE.
2 Commercial Burglaries: 11900-block of Horseshoe Trail SE, 800-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE.
4 Residential Burglaries: 900-block of Ram Trail SE, 12600-block of Monarch Dr NE, 700-block of Monte Alto Dr NE, 9900-block of Spain Rd NE. Entries via sliding glass door, two entries via windows at the back of the home and one entry was via sawing off a padlock to a storage shed (these count as residential burglaries per FBI Uniform Crime Reporting standards).
5 Auto Burglaries: 700-block of Morris St NE, 10300-block of Hotel Circle NE, 5800-block of Eubank Blvd NE, 2 vehicles at the same address on the 5000-block of Basin St NE. Entries were unforced, and at the time of my research, it appears that only one of the 5 auto burglaries reported yesterday was a forced entry. If we could just lock up our vehicles and remove valuables, we could cut down on these types of incidents. Items stolen: a birth certificate and spare change left in the center console. Of the five auto burglaries, two of the five included attempts to steal those vehicles while committing the auto burglaries.
Trends: Sadly, the lax securing of firearms is a continuing trend in the Foothills.
Garage doors and garage door openers continue to lead to multiple crimes: residential burglary, auto burglary and auto theft. Be a good citizen and alert your neighbor if they have left the garage door open. Remove keys and garage door openers when you park the vehicle and keep those items with you. Stop leaving documents with personal information inside vehicles and take those with you when you park and exit – – these lead to further crimes (identity theft, fraud, forgery, etc.).
Have a great holiday weekend! Be safe,
