African visitors / IRS Scam (again) / USMC Birthday / Vets’ Day / Property Crime on Wed.

African Children’s Choir in Albuquerque:  What a treat to greet the visiting members of the African Children’s Choir yesterday while I was conducting a security survey at a local Foothills Area Command church.  Highlights of their visit to the United States?  Disneyland and seeing a real cowboy!  Safe travels to the Choir on the rest of their United States tour.

The old IRS telephone scam was reported by Kay W. — thanks for letting me know.  Apparently scammers are calling potential scam targets claiming to be agents of the IRS and threatening those potential scam targets with warrants unless they pay up immediately.  If you get one of these calls, hang up.  The IRS will not contact you by telephone if you owe them money.

The United States Marine Corps was formed today, November 10, in 1775.  Happy birthday USMC — where would we be without you?

Veterans Day, Friday, November 11th:  The Foothills Substation  will be closed in honor of Veterans Day.  Thank you to all have served in the military.

Property Crime in the Foothills on Wednesday, November 10th

1 Armed Robbery to a Business: 13100-block of Central NE.

4 Stolen Vehicles: 13200-block of Panorama Loop NE., 12200-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 3600-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 5800-block of Juan Tabo.

1 Residential Burglary: 11100-block of Gibson SE.

4 Auto Burglaries: 600-block of Morris NE, 600-block of Manor Ct NE, 2100-block of Blue Corn Maiden Ct NE, 12200-block of Montgomery Blvd NE.  One of these four vehicles had the ignition ripped out, an indicator of an attempt to steal the vehicle. Entries to vehicles were unforced entries (leaving windows rolled down) and smashing windows.

Thank you to all have served or are currently serving in the military.  Happy Veterans Day and I will be back next week to keep you up to date with crime prevention posts.  Be safe,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, NCPS – APD, Foothills Area Command
