New Neighborhood Watch Group! Dahlia Ave SE / Tip of the Day / Thank you, Navy! / Property Crime in the Foothills on Wednesday

Please welcome the Foothills Area Command’s newest Neighborhood Watch group:  Thanks to Steve and Corrine for hosting and stepping forward to serve as Block Captain for the Neighborhood Watch group formed last night on Dahlia Avenue SE in the Juan Tabo Hills neighborhood.  We had a very well attended meeting and a motivated group of residents who now know how to safely report crime and suspicious activity and ‘harden their targets.’  To form a Neighborhood Watch group on your block, contact APD Senior Crime Prevention Specialist Steve Sink at 244-6644 to get a Starter Kit.

October is National Crime Prevention Month — Here’s your tip of the day:  Do you leave keys in the ignition so you can ‘be mobile’?  This is not a good practice.  Keep your car keys in a safe place inside the house with you.  If your garage is broken into or you leave the garage door open, your car keys have provided a criminal an easy way to steal your vehicle.  Lock the door leading from inside the garage into the home.  Secure your garage door and alert a neighbor if you see their garage door is open.

Thank you United States Navy — National Navy Day is observed annually on October 27th.  Thank you to those who have served or are currently serving in the Navy.  The United States Navy has 340,000 actively serving and a reserve of 71,000.  The United States Navy was formed in October 1775 by John Paul Jones and John Barry.  To post on social media, use #NavyDay.

Thank you to the US Navy web site for these interesting facts!
