October is National Crime Prevention Month: Here’s your tip of the day — In light of the huge internet meltdown last week (Netflix and many other popular sites were affected), I want to provide you with a password crime prevention tip today. Never select a password or Personal Identification Number (PIN) that uses recognizable information. For example: your street address number, your telephone number, your date of birth, mother’s maiden name, etc. Select a strong password or PIN that can’t be used to piece together an identity theft profile or deduce personal information about you.
Stealin’ Wheels: Today I saw a report of tires being stolen off a new 2016 model truck in the Foothills Area Command. This happened in a large parking lot at a location where you would think there would be multiple potential witnesses! The level of risk the criminal felt must have been very low to steal the tires off a parked truck in a populated and well-traversed area. I have not seen this type of crime in a while in our area (since a few summers ago). If you have to park outside and do not have access to a secured garage I recommend looking at various wheel/tire locking mechanisms, alarm options and lighting that will cover your vehicle adequately to discourage this type of theft.
