Stop Bullying! It is National Stop Bullying Day (annually on the second Wednesday of October). National Stop Bullying Day is all about bringing awareness of the need to stand up against and put an end to bullying. You can participate by learning about forms of bullying and if posting on social media today, use #NationalStopBullyingDay to be a part of the larger conversation. Thanks to the National Day Calendar (www.NationalDayCalendar.com) for the helpful information.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Etching Event: Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot at 1220 Renaissance Blvd NE. This is free, you just need to bring the current registration with your vehicle to have the APD Auto Theft team etch the VIN number on each window. Having the VIN number etched on the windows of your vehicle discourages auto thefts with the aim of dismantling vehicles and selling the parts through a ‘chop shop’ and also helps law enforcement identify a recovered stolen vehicle.
National Crime Prevention Month Tip of the Day: Adults/parents should be encouraged to follow their child’s social media pages, posts and followers. Thanks to the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners (ISCPP) for this tip!
Property Crime in the Foothills on Monday 10/10 and Tuesday 10/11
6 Stolen Vehicles: 700-block of Stephen Moody SE, 12000-block of Skyline Rd SE, 400-block of Western Skies SE, 100-block of Juan Tabo Blvd, 10000-block of Menaul Blvd NE.
1 Commercial Burglary: 100-block of Hotel Circle NE.
5 Residential Burglaries: 11100-block of Ventura NE, 13000-block of Deer Dancer Trail NE, 200-block of Western Skies SE, 11600-block of Marquette NE, 3100-block of Pitt NE, 5000-block of Basin Street NE.
15 Auto Burglaries: 10800-block of Arguello Trl, 10900-block of Ft Scott Trl, 800-block of Bryce Canyon SE, 10400-block of Central NE, 800-block of Suzanne Ln SE, 500-block of Aragon SE, 600-block of Stagecoach SE, 12800-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 10000-block of Menaul Blvd NE, 3000-block of Jane Place NE, 100-block of Westlake Dr NE, 13000-block of Menaul Blvd NE, Elena Gallegos parking area, Embudito Trail parking area, 5700-block of Teakwood Trl NE.
As you can see, the auto burglars continue to ‘feed’ at the trail head parking areas. Cut off the ‘food supply’ for these auto burglars by not leaving things of value inside your vehicle. Purses, wallets, IDs, credit cards, cash, designer sunglasses, cell phones, vehicle registration/insurance papers, personal documents, mail, and the list goes on for items stolen from parked and unattended vehicles. You can control your environment by practicing crime prevention and one way is paring down on these items and carrying essentials with you and not leaving them in the vehicle.
I will be out of the office until next week, so you won’t see any posts until at least Monday. Be safe,
Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, NCPS – APD, Foothills Area Command
