Guns in Hands of Criminals / Day 22 – Incident & Caution / Property Crime over the Weekend

Guns in Hands of Criminals:  So far this month (as of Sunday, 9/18/16), criminals have stolen 7 unsecured guns from citizens in the Foothills Area Command.  Six of the seven have been stolen from unattended, parked vehicles and one during a residential burglary in the Foothills Area Command.  Folks, gun owners are inadvertently arming a criminal population who remain undeterred to commit a felony crimes.  I am asking each and every one of our gun owners to please properly secure your guns.  Never leave a gun in a parked vehicle.  Use a gun safe and proper precautions when you bring your guns inside your home.  I pray that the 7 guns stolen in 18 days in this Area Command will not be used on innocent citizens or the police officers who are working so hard to keep the community safer.  Gun ownership is one of the our fundamental rights in this great nation, but along with gun ownership rights come responsibilities.

Day 22 of the Foothills 30-Day Garage Door Pledge:  Incident Involving an Open Garage Door and CAUTION — Our first incident of a burglary in the Foothills Area Command with entry via an open garage door happened Tuesday the 13th of September on the 11300-block of Oceola SE.  The caller gave chase to two offenders and one fired shots from a 45 caliber gun putting the entire community at risk.  A bullet could have killed anyone passing by:  with an elementary school, a park, a community center, several large apartment and mobile home park dwellings, multiple businesses, many homes and heavily traveled major streets in this area, a staggering number of people were put at risk.  Bullets travel a minimum of 850 feet per second:  Do NOT chase or confront criminals.  Call 911 from a place where you are safe if you are in a similar situation.  Let those who are trained to apprehend criminals respond and get the bad guys.  Lives, whether our own or someone innocently in the area, are not worth our “stuff.”

We also had a report of a garage door opener stolen during an auto burglary over the last week.  Remember to bring in garage door openers when you park your vehicle.  The garage door opener is the key to the biggest door to your home.

Stay safe,
