Wednesday, July 13th at 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the APD Foothills Substation at 12800 Lomas Blvd NE. Special guests from APD Communications to answer all of your questions and explain how to best pave the way for first responders to get to you in an emergency, how to be a helpful witness when calling in a suspicious person or vehicle, what if I know a ‘hoarder’ and how can first responders get to that person in an emergency or an agitated pet is impeding first responders, etc. Bring your questions and we will spend an hour together preparing you in case you need to call 911 or 242-COPS some day.
Foothills Area Command Neighborhood Watch Summit: I have half the room filled — let’s get the other half filled! This is a session for the Foothills Area Command community and APD Foothills leadership to spend some time together discussing how to start a Neighborhood Watch group and how to support our existing Block Captains in an effort to help keep these citizen-driven groups active and engaged. National Night Out is coming up! To register your Neighborhood Watch or Neighborhood Association/HOA’s event or gathering with the APD Crime Prevention Unit, please call the Citizens Contact Center (dial 311) starting July 1st. The deadline to register a National Night Out event is Friday, July 28th by 5:00 p.m. All recognized NA/HOA and Neighborhood Watch Block Captains will be getting a letter and brochure from APD Senior Crime Prevention Specialist Steve Sink with information (244-6644).
Schemes and Scams: Want a great resource on schemes foiled, scammers prosecuted? Check out the Federal Trade Commission’s “Penn Corner” e-newsletter at www.ftc.gov. You can sign up as a subscriber and receive their monthly publication — it’s a great way to learn about scams being operated and a good resource to share with neighbors in your NAs, HOAs, Neighborhood Watch groups, apartment community newsletters or community rooms.
