Weapons continue to be stolen from parked vehicles: Yesterday we had 2 9 MM handguns stolen in one case and a knife in another case of auto burglaries. We have to take responsibility for our weapons and properly storing them. The risk to children, grandchildren around unsecured weapons and the risk of arming a criminal via an auto burglary and stealing a gun is high. If you didn’t get a chance to enroll in my May 25th “Gun Safety for Families” Workshop Wednesday at the Foothills (it’s full now with a waiting list) please do some research on gun safes, trigger locks, etc. The entire community’s safety depends on proper firearms storage! We also had two passports stolen from two different vehicles and documents with personal information (potential for ID theft, fraud, forgery) from vehicles yesterday.
Screening on Child / Human Trafficking on Monday, May 16th: The public is invited to a nationwide, one-night only event screening of “The Abolitionists” produced by Gerald Molen (“Schindler’s List”, “Jurassic Park”), a documentary featuring undercover missions by the Operation Underground Railroad. This non-profit rescues children caught in the sex trade / human trafficking all over the world. The screenings will be at 7:30 p.m. at both the UA Cottonwood 16 and the Century Rio 24. Thanks for reading — please use the tips listed above to reduce your odds of being a victim and look up the Channel 13 news story for a little insight into crime and posting on web sites as community members. I hope you will get a chance to attend the movie screening at either theater on Monday night. This is not only National Law Enforcement Memorial Month, but May 25th is National Missing Children’s Day and the screening on Monday night may enlighten many of the plight of missing children globally.
