New Neighborhood Watch: 11000-blk Malaguena Ln NE — Guns — Taxes — Property Crime on 4/13/16

Welcome to our newest Neighborhood Watch group in the Foothills Area Command!  Thanks to the folks on the 11000-block of Malaguena Lane NE (off Carruthers & Academy).  Shirley M. put together a fantastic patio party and indoor meeting, did the Starter Kit organization and thanks to Bill M. and Stan B. for stepping forward as Block Captain and Co-Captain for the block.  The residents are looking into making a commitment to check exterior lighting and keeping the block well lit at night — remember, criminals do not like to be seen!  Thanks again for a productive meeting and taking the time to learn about crime prevention, bring your crime issues to the table and meet your local Crime Prevention Specialist and our two APD Foothills officers.

Guns:  I am seeing a few incidents of guns being left in parked vehicles or at home in plain view and the home or the vehicle is burglarized.  I will be hosting a “Workshop Wednesday at the Foothills” in May on “Gun Safety for Families” where you can learn how to properly secure firearms.  Remember, a gun that is stolen is now in a criminal’s hands who had no qualms about burglarizing your vehicle or your home.  Let’s work together on securing firearms to protect our families and local law enforcement.  Watch this web site and nextdoor.com for postings in late April or early May about the Workshop Wednesday so that you can sign up to attend.  I will have trigger locks available for those who attend the May Workshop Wednesday at the Foothills and a special guest speaker, one of our Foothills Area Command Impact Team Detectives.

Taxes: I am noticing in recent auto burglaries in our area that tax documents are being stolen from parked vehicles.  Remember to protect your personal information with the utmost care!  The IRS documents, personal information, W-2s, check stubs, etc. are just a valuable a target for an auto burglar as a CD collection, radio, tools, etc. that are commonly stolen from parked vehicles.  We have just a few more days till income taxes are due:  let’s not let down our guard just before we reach the tax deadline!

Property Crime in the Foothills Area Command on Wednesday, April 13th:

1 Stolen Vehicle:  1000-block of Salinas Street NE.

2 Residential Burglaries:  500-block of Western Skies SE, 100-block of Canyonview Ct NE.

4 Auto Burglaries: 700-block of Eubank Blvd SE, 10500-block of Irene NE, Elena Gallegos parking area, 10300-block of Oso Redondo NE.

Be safe — and remember about ‘editing’ what you leave behind in your vehicles!
