New FH Neighborhood Watch, Link to Ch 13 Story, Property Crimes on Wed/Thu 4/6 & 7…

Please welcome the residents of the 13100-block of Sandstone Place NE and the 2 additional homes on Camino De La Sierra that face Sandstone Place NE.  We had a really fun meeting on Wednesday, April 6rh and also did a Walk the Block with Jill” group lesson on crime prevention techniques before the Neighborhood Watch facilitation.  During our group walk, we encountered a pair of door-to-door solicitors, which was great timing!  I was able to teach the group about the door to door soliciting ordinance, how to respond to solicitors if in the yard or from behind the locked front door.  We also got a chance to talk about the free No Solicitors signs available for the public at local APD substations.  Unfortunately, the Foothills Substation is out of the signs (our residents LOVE the signs), but if you check with Steve Sink at 244-6644 (APD Crime Prevention Coordinator) or any other APD Substation, you may be able to pick up a No Solicitors sign.  You can also make your own or purchase one at most big-box retail/hardware stores.  Thanks to the residents on Sandstone Place NE and to Max L. for organizing a great evening and stepping forward to serve as Block Captain.  Also thanks to Lt. George, Sgt. Weidner and Officer Lopez for stopping by throughout the evening to meet the residents and answer questions.

KRQE Channel 13 story on bogus tree trimmer: Crime Prevention Specialist Sharanne Press of the North East Area Command participated in a story run last night at 10:00 on a bogus tree trimmer scammer operating in the North East area.  As you know if you are a frequent Foothills Area Command web site reader, often what starts in a nearby Area Command can spread to other Area Commands.  I did a prior post on the tree trimmer story that you can find in past posts and I recommend visiting KRQE’s web site to see a video of last night’s story: Go to and scroll down to the tab “Latest Local Videos” to see the video of last night’s story.

Property Crime in the Foothills on Wed. 4/6 and Thu. 4/7:

4 Stolen Vehicles: 200-block of Western Skies SE, 3200-block of Betts NE, 3500-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 2500-block of Chelwood Park Blvd NE.

1 Residential Burglary: 700-block of Ocala SE.

12 Auto Burglaries: 11500-block of Isle Royale SE, 700-block of Stephen Moody SE, two vehicles at the same address on the 12800-block of Dorado SE, 10300-block of Hotel Circle NE, 10600-block of Lomas Blvd NE, 700-block of Juan Tabo Blvd NE, 11000-block of Briarwood Terrace NE, Piedra Lisa Canyon parking area, 10500-block of Santa Susana NE, 5000-block of Shiloh Ct NE.

About 1/3 of the auto burglaries on Wed/Thu were to unsecured vehicles (not locked, etc.).  We also show a gun and the concealed carry permit were stolen in one of the auto burglaries.  Hopefully the gun will not be used against innocent citizens or the police officers who work to protect our community.  I will be hosting a “Workshop Wednesday at the Foothills” on May 25th on Gun Safety for Families.  Properly securing firearms is a critical component that must align with the right to own firearms.  Watch this web site and in May for workshop information and sign up instructions.

Have a safe weekend,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist/ICPS, NCPS – APD Foothills Area Command
