Crime Prevention Tips based on weekend cases: Good news, bad news, guns in vehicles…
The numbers overall reduced — the good news. The bad news — as a community, we are still naïve when it comes to leaving articles of value — including guns — inside our vehicles and walking away. Our auto burglaries over the weekend were all ‘smash & grabs’ which means the offender broke the window to access the vehicle to steal items left inside the vehicle. Criminals got away with a Coach purse and contents, another purse and contents, a medical bag and contents and a Smith & Wesson 9 MM all from parked vehicles. As you can see, with the warmer weather, as predicted, the trail head parking areas were targeted by criminals. Please help me by spreading the word to family, friends, neighbors, colleagues about the amount of items being stolen from vehicles.
The gun stolen this weekend is of particular concern to me: so far in the month of February alone in the Foothills, criminals have stolen 6 guns, 2 knives, a 6″ buck knife, two 9MM magazines, 1 loaded ammo clip and 1,000 rounds of ammo that were all left behind in parked vehicles by citizens. The safety of our community and our law enforcement community depends upon gun owners practicing personal responsibility when it comes to securing your weapons.
Be safe, and please help me spread the word about crime prevention by encouraging others to subscribe to this web site. This web site is where crime prevention is shared with the community at large and where we can have interactive conversation, share information and keep informed about APD Foothills Area Command issues.
