Are you in the construction, welding, electrical or plumbing industry? How secure is your company vehicle? I have seen a lot of specialized tools, wiring, equipment, etc. being reported stolen out of company vehicles. Are these tools how you make your living? Have you considered insuring these types of tools or at least having a property inventory of each tool with the make, model, serial number and any other unique identifiers? These items are in demand in the criminal community, as they are easily pawned or traded or re-sold. Make a commitment to do a property inventory and keep track of these items in addition to locking up and securing company vehicles and the contents (tools of the trade). If your work tools are stolen, the detailed information is important to the officer writing your police report and if tools are recovered, you have a better chance of claiming recovered stolen property with the make/model/serial numbers and other details listed on your police report. Keep your property inventory in a safe place and keep it up to date.
