Property Crime on Tuesday, 2/9 and Daily Crime Prevention Tip of the Day

“The IRS called and they said they are suing me and I have to call this phone number with a Washington, DC area code…”  Good morning Foothills Area Command web site readers!  I have been receiving calls and emails from our community members about this telephone scam circulating throughout the community.  This is a scam – the IRS will not notify a citizen that they are being sued over the phone.  If you are contacted, just hang up.  These types of telephone scam calls will be increasing during tax season, so be prepared.  These types of scammers use fear tactics and work off of huge lists of phone numbers hoping to get someone to call them back and/or provide them with personal information.  Thanks to the multiple Foothills Area Command residents who contacted me that they received these types of phone calls.
