Crime Prevention Tips of the Day:  Two more vehicles stolen in the Foothills while left warming up and unattended.  This is really hurting our community and endangering neighborhoods.  Please don’t be ‘that guy/gal’ — this is attracting a criminal element to your block, exposing you and your family to criminals committing a felony and providing a criminal an easy way to steal a vehicle and what is inside the vehicle at the time of theft:  children, pets, purses, wallets, cash, key rings with keys to home/business/other vehicles, garage door openers, papers inside the vehicle with personal information that can be used to commit identity theft or other crime, work equipment or briefcases, etc.  Please help me with this in the community and spread the word to neighbors.  I don’t know if these occurrences are due to a sense of ‘it won’t happen to me’ or ‘I live in a nice neighborhood so it won’t happen here’ or ‘I’ll just be minute and my car won’t be stolen.’

Another thing we (APD Foothills Area Command) need help with:  extra eyes on vacant homes in the neighborhood.  I am seeing burglaries at homes where people were away for weeks at a time and yesterday to a home under construction.  If you see something, say something — call 242-COPS from a safe place, report the person/vehicle you saw who you don’t think should be there, provide the best description you can and an officer will be dispatched and the information will be in our system as well for analysis and other projects internally that we do to help the community.

Thanks everyone — have a wonderful Martin Luther King, Jr Day —
