Crime Prevention Tips of the Day:  The level of preventable crimes is high for our area command.  Each of our stolen vehicles in the Foothills yesterday were 100% preventable cases.  Fifty percent of the auto burglaries yesterday were to vehicles that were left unlocked.  The other fifty percent did not have the information I needed at time of posting, so there is a chance that 100% of our auto burglaries yesterday were to unsecured vehicles.  Give yourself peace of mind and avoid being victimized by locking up your vehicles, never leaving a vehicle running with the keys inside, and remove all items of value from your vehicle when you park and walk away.  What was stolen from unlocked vehicles yesterday in the Foothills:  Federal ID, gun safe, stereo, wallet, drivers license, Social Security card, debit card, vehicle registration and insurance papers, a 2-ton jack, and extensive dash damage indicating an additional attempt to steal the vehicle.  Tools are also hot-ticket items for auto burglars.  We have to batten down the hatches and take personal responsibility for securing our property and controlling our environment and I can help you with tips on how to ‘harden your target’ — spread the word about the web site and the daily crime prevention tips so we can have a better informed community and make a dent in these types of occurrences.

Stay safe and have a good weekend,
