Crime Prevention Tip of the Day / Property Crime on Tuesday 11/17/15 in the Foothills

1 Stolen Vehicle: 10000-block of Menaul Blvd NE.

1 Residential Burglary: 2900-block of Vista Del Rey NE.

2 Auto Burglaries: 12800-block of Copper NE, 10400-block of Guadalajara NE.

Crime Prevention Tip of the Day:  Remove all items of value when you park your car and walk away.  Both of our auto burglaries in the Foothills Area Command yesterday were 100% preventable:  one victim left a purse on the front seat of the vehicle while warming it up and walked away to go back inside and is, frankly, fortunate the purse was stolen and not the vehicle too!  The other auto burglary was a ‘smash and grab’ (breaking a window to get inside the vehicle) to steal a back pack left on the front seat.  We have to take personal responsibility for securing our property and controlling our environment.  Auto burglary is a crime of opportunity and if you remove the target (the valuable item) and delay or deny entry (locking up) you will greatly reduce your odds of being a victim.  Stay safe everyone!
