Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Awareness and Properly Securing Vehicles/Homes:  We have to be more aware about leaving our homes unlocked, vehicles unlocked, garages unlocked. Over the weekend our residential burglaries were both unforced entries to unsecured homes (unlocked sliding glass door, open garage door).  The auto burglaries in the Foothills Area Command are running about 50/50 for forced or unforced entries to steal items of value left inside.

What was taken from vehicles this weekend? Items strapped to the roof of a vehicle parked outside a motel overnight.  Multiple driver’s licenses, credit cards, debit cards, the rent money left inside the center console, a wallet left on the front seat of a vehicle parked outside overnight left unlocked, $5 from the center console, vehicle registration paperwork, a company/employer checkbook and 2,000 rounds of ammunition.  Think about the bigger picture of what you leave behind in your vehicle when you park and walk away:  the potential for an offender to commit further crimes, the potential to harm innocent citizens or our police officers.

Stay safe, have a great week ahead and commit to being more aware of your surroundings and what you leave behind a vehicle and lock up!
