Crime Prevention Tip of the Day: Tools, tools and more tools….Tools are prized items to steal.  Start thinking about what you have outside your home, in unlocked sheds, in open garages, sitting in vehicles that are parked outside overnight.  The theft of tools was felt by both our business community and residential community yesterday.  Secure your tools.  Lock them up.  Remove them from work and personal vehicles, also RVs, trailers, that are parked and left unattended.  These types of thefts hurt our community — a business is halted from providing services, a self-employed person’s wallet takes a direct hit if his/her tools for work are stolen, families are hurt by these types of thefts.  Take a few extra moments to secure the tools that support your livelihood and put food on the table.  It will be worth it if you know you have controlled your environment to the best of your ability.

Another brief word about firearms stolen from unattended vehicles:  We went a whole day in the Foothills without a firearm being stolen from a vehicle.  However, a hunting knife was stolen from a vehicle yesterday.  Take that extra responsible step on behalf of our police officers, your community and the safety of your family and bring in weapons and secure them when you park.  We are all counting on owners of weapons to take these measures.

Stay safe everyone,

Jill Garcia, Crime Prevention Specialist / ICPS, APD – Foothills Area Command
