Crime Prevention Tips based on these cases:  Five of eight of our auto theft cases yesterday were in areas with lots of vehicles and easy in/out access:  apartment parking lots, commercial centers, and a vehicle rental center.  Two of the eight vehicles stolen were stolen using the key to the vehicle.  Sadly, one of our victims yesterday left a door open for the dog to come/go through the home and the home was burglarized.  The vehicle keys were stolen from that home and used to then steal the vehicle, so we had one person victimized with an residential burglary and a vehicle theft.  We have to do a better job as a community of locking up our property.  Our residential burglaries had entries made through the back of the home via open windows at two of the four committed yesterday.  One of the four residential burglaries was via an unlocked front door and the other to a home under construction.  One of our four residential burglaries was one reported by an alert citizen who called it in to APD from a safe place while it was in progress.  Your eyes on the block really do help our police officers.
