Here is the “To Do” list I created as a resource for attendees at the last “Workshop Wednesday at the Foothills” session on Crime Prevention for the Home on August 12, 2015.

  • LOOK AT YOUR HOME FROM ACROSS THE STREET.
  • CLEAN YOUR LIGHT COVERS AND IMPROVE YOUR LIGHTING by 50%!
  • CHECK ORDINANCES AND HOA RULES/COVENANTS RE: LIGHTING.
  • FENCING: IN GOOD REPAIR? SERVING THE INTENDED FUNCTION?
  • FENCING: CHECK ORDINANCES AND HOA RULES/CONVENANTS.
  • GARAGE DOORS: CHECK FOR WEAK POINTS/REPAIR ISSUES.
  • GARAGE DOORS: DEADBOLTS, SMART SYSTEMS, CODES, ETC.
  • LANDSCAPING: IS YOUR LANDSCAPING BLOCKING YOUR LIGHTING?
  • LANDSCAPING: STAY ON TOP OF TRIMMING! 3/6 FT GUIDELINES.
  • LANDSCAPING: IS THERE STRATEGIC PLANTING POTENTIAL?
  • DOORS: TEACH CHILDREN HOW TO RESPOND.
  • DOORS: EYE VIEWERS – CAN EVERYONE IN THE HOME ACCESS IT?
  • DOORS: KEYS AND KEY CUSTODY – REVIEW AND ASSESS.
  • PORCH: DEVELOP CLEAR SIGHT LINES, REMOVE TRIP/FALL HAZARDS.
  • WINDOWS: CHECK SCREENS – TEARS, LOOSE, BENT, FALLING OFF, ETC.
  • WINDOWS: SEE AT NIGHT/DAY RE: BLINDS, CURTAINS.
  • REMOVE ITEMS OUTSIDE THAT CAN BE USED TO SMASH A WINDOW.
  • PROPERTY INVENTORY: GET ONE SET UP AND KEEP IT CURRENT.
