Daily Watch Notes: Property Crime in the Foothills on Monday, July 27, 2015

0 Robberies (to individuals, a business, a home or vehicle).

0 Commercial Burglaries.

1 Stolen Vehicle:  1500-block of Willy’s Knight, stolen while the vehicle was left running and unattended.  Only five minutes elapsed from walking away from a running vehicle to reporting it stolen.  Don’t let this happen to you — control your environment by properly securing your belongings.  This is a 100% preventable crime and a crime of opportunity.  Shut down the opportunity.  Reduce the odds of being a victim of a criminal waiting to pounce.  Luckily no one was harmed and there were no children or pets in the vehicle when it was stolen.

1 Residential Burglary: 600-block of Cottonwood Court SE.  I am seeing a trend of burglars getting around to the back of homes and removing screens to gain entry through a window.  Report anyone who doesn’t appear to have legitimate business at a home trying to gain access to the back of the home to 242-COPS (2677) from a safe place.  Also, if you have a doggie door, secure it when not in use.  These are also used as access points for burglars and are usually at the back of the home where sight lines of potential witnesses are cut off by walls, trees and other landscaping.

0 Auto Burglaries.
