Daily Watch Notes: Property Crime in the Foothills over the Weekend (7/17-18-29)

1 Car Jacking (robbery/vehicle):  200-block of Dorado Place SE. Crime Prevention Tip:  Again, as stated last week, AWARENESS is key. Watch for anyone in a parking lot who doesn’t appear to have legitimate business being there.  If you feel there is suspicious activity (casing vehicles, loitering, panhandling, etc) leave and return another time.  Call the courtesy patrol, management and 242-COPS (2677) from a safe place to report these persons.  You can always go back another time or with a friend or when it appears safer.

1 Robbery to an Individual: 4200-block of Eubank Blvd NE.  Crime Prevention Tip: When selling high-dollar items, meet in a public spot with passers-by and potential witnesses.  Do not sell items through a web site you feel is disreputable.  Have a buddy with you when you make the sale/exchange of goods for money.  If it doesn’t feel right, walk away.

0 Robberies to Businesses or Robberies to a Residence (Home Invasion).

5 Stolen Vehicles: 10800-block of Ft Point Ln, 12800-block of Dorado SE, 12700-block of Turquoise Ave NE, 10400-block of Eden Drive NE, 4200-block of Spanish Bit NE.  Crime Prevention Tip: Stop leaving keys in unattended vehicles.  Park in your garage and secure your personal property properly.  No garage available?  Park in a well-lit area with good sight lines (where you and others can see your vehicle), check out anti-theft devices at all price points, lock your vehicle and remove ALL items of value, which includes anything with your personal information, from the vehicle when you park.

1 Commercial Burglary: 9800-block of Montgomery Blvd NE.  Crime Prevention Tip: I am seeing the same type of business burglarized week after week.  Do not rely on surveillance video after the crime has occurred to hope to catch a glimpse of a crook.  Build up your crime prevention practices to prevent the crime from taking place.  I can show you how.  Call me for a security assessment at 332-5240 and I will visit your site and provide you with a checklist of recommendations.

3 Residential Burglaries: 12000-block of Skyline Rd NE, 9700-block of Aztec Rd NE, 5800-block of Eubank Blvd NE.  Crime Prevention Tip:  It is VITAL to you and your family to STOP LEAVING GARAGE DOOR OPENERS IN VEHICLES PARKED OUTSIDE GARAGES, UNLOCKED, OVER NIGHT.  I cannot stress enough the risks to you and your family by not properly securing your property.  This practice also attracts a criminal element to your neighborhood.  The offenders are stealing garage door openers from unlocked vehicles parked outside garages and using the garage door openers to open single-family home garages and commit residential burglary (and sometimes vehicle theft) while families are asleep inside the home.  Please take responsibility for properly securing your property.  This is controlling your own environment and being a responsible citizen.

Our other 2 residential burglaries were at apartment complexes and doors were kicked in by offenders to gain entry.  I am hosting a “Workshop Wednesdays at the Foothills” series and the first workshop in on Wednesday, July 29th at 5:30 at 12800 Lomas Blvd NE on “Rental Property Resources”  and I will be speaking about the APD and rental property partnership, the Crime Free Multi-Housing program.  This program teaches landlords how to practice crime prevention to reduce crime on their properties and part of the program is teaching residents about crime prevention.  Call or email your RSVP to me to attend this workshop.

0 Auto Burglaries.  Terrific!  I haven’t seen zero-auto-burglaries over an entire weekend in a long time.
