Crime Prevention Tips: Regarding our robbery to an individual yesterday – I recommend walking in areas where you are visible at all times.  Visibility reduces your odds of being a victim — there are passers-by who could be potential witnesses and call 911 if you are a targeted and passers-by deter an individual due to the higher risk of being caught if committing a crime.

Vehicles were targeted yesterday for burglary and theft at ‘target-rich environments’ — areas where there are lots of vehicles in one spot.  These areas were all within a block or two of main traffic corridors:  Eubank/Chico, Eubank/Southern, Montgomery corridor for two sites and along Lomas for another one.  These areas provide easy access, so to balance that you will need to up your crime prevention efforts.  That means locking vehicles, removing all items of value from the vehicle when you park, parking in a secured garage or with good sight lines if a garage isn’t on premises It looks like 100% of our auto burglaries yesterday were unforced entries.  We’ve got to do a better job of securing our property – it’s a way to control your environment and take personal responsibility for your property.  Help me spread the word about this:  locking up, keeping windows rolled up, if you have a car alarm, activating it.  I hope we see a reduction in these crimes of opportunity.  I can teach you crime prevention at your next Neighborhood Watch or Neighborhood Association or apartment community meeting – call me to set up an appointment at 332-5240.
