Crime Prevention Notes:

  • Unfortunately, another vehicle was stolen while left unattended ‘warming up’.  This is a preventable crime!  This is also attracting criminals to neighborhoods as a great place to look for vehicles warming up in the early hours.  Please spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors to stop this practice.
  • Our robbery to an individual was at an ATM after 10:00 p.m.  If you have to use the ATM, try to use one inside the branch or grocery store when there are passers-by, security, etc. If you have to use an ATM at night, check and scan the area before getting out of your vehicle — if it doesn’t feel ‘right’, leave the area.
  • Our residential burglary was mid-morning, a typical time.  People who are in/out running errands or home all day can be a great help to law enforcement by reporting suspicious persons to 242-COPS from a safe place.
  • I received an email on a group distribution about the wisdom of removing items of value from  the vehicle and leaving it unlocked, assuming it will be burglarized anyway and this will save the victim from paying to replace a broken window.  I hope this citizen is comfortable with attracting criminals to the neighborhood by making it so easy for a criminal to burglarize vehicles left parked outside secured garages on the block.  Criminals talk and share information too; why not just employ some crime prevention tips and force criminals away from your vehicles, homes and families?

Stay safe,
